INTELLECT develops and demonstrates a radically new, printable, light-operated and -powered memristive technology. The computation building block is a hybrid memristor with an electrochromic feature that exhibits a unique Photo-Volta-Chromic Processing-in-Memory, enabling simultaneous IoT energy-efficient computing and solar energy harvesting. A prototype of up to a 3×3-cell memristor crossbar array will be realized by a low-cost, clean-room-less fabrication employing industrially compatible printing techniques based on environmentally friendly materials and processes. This photovoltaic memristor technology is anticipated to overcome cell selection and sneak-path current issues at the minimum footprint, improve energy-delay product and computation power consumption, while significantly reducing the production cost compared to today’s architectures.
